Validated by Those That Know Performance

May 21st, 2009

The development of SR-91® began in the lab. But the real test of our lens technology happens where it matters most – on championship-level athletes who require performance. Where all the talk stops, and reality is measured by results. On the road, field, course, snow, trail, and water. Only SR-91 polarized lenses perform at the highest level like no other – without compromise.Whether on the track or driving down the street, road warriors of all types can benefit from Kaenon Polarized SR-91 lenses, which provide a safer and more pleasurable driving experience.• SR-91 offers glare reduction at optimum levels to eliminate glare from road surfaces and the dash of your car so you can see potential road hazards.
• Extremely light weight provides all-day comfort.
• Light Transmission Control technology tunes the light for different driving and lighting conditions.
• High-resolution optics provide unparalleled clarity.
Only SR-91 polarized lenses perform at the highest level – without compromise. No other lens offers better clarity, impact-protection, and glare-reduction all in one ultra-lightweight lens.

Two drivers in this weekends Indy 500 are true believers in Kaenon’s Performance and we wish them the best of luck!

Danica Patrick has inspired some of the styles that Kaenon has produced over the years. In working with her on the lens’ performance and also the frame performance and styling, she has been a part of Kaenon’s design and engineering process every step of the way. Most recently she has inspired the metal inlay on the CALAIS model. More of her inspiration will be seen toward the end of this year with the addition of three new styles. Currently, her go-to pieces are CALAIS, GEORGIA, BURNY and EDEN.

Ryan Briscoe is a man who knows performance when he sees it. He has locked on to our popular JETTY style and mixes it up with its range of frame colors – from Seaweed to Matte Black. But one thing always remains the same – the SR-91 G12 lens which gives him ultimate visual performance.

Know Your H2O

May 21st, 2009

The other evening the Know Your H20 section of the San Diego Surfrider Foundation hosted Rob Davis of Voice of San Diego.org ( Rob’s Blog can be found here)  at the Point Loma Outfitting store. Rob has become an autority on San Diego’s water issues and presented a well thought our presentaion on the primary difference between the use of desalination plants and re-cycling sewage as a source of additional water. The Surfrider Foundation has staked their position against desalination as these plants use a tremendous amount of energy and also beacuse of their detremental impact on the local eco-systems. “Toilet to Tap” has always had a negative political perception, but as Rob explained here in San Diego most of the water that enters our system has already be re-cyled from upstream uses. While neither system is the magic solution, at this time it would appear re-cycling provides the more economic answer.

We hope to have the opportunity to host amore of these events as they are quite educational, and it never hurts to stimulate the brain a little. Keep a eye on this for further details. Thanks Rob!

Why SLAM? Tecnology

May 14th, 2009

SLAM’s high-tech “floating laboratory” has fine tuned high performance clothing for Top International Sailing Teams.

Research conducted to find the most suitable fibers, the use of innovative finishes which use the latest in nanotechnology and numerous scientifically measured performance tests, made the creation of a series of technologically advanced “limited edition” garments possible.

SLAM, at the side of the Italian Sailing Federation as its official supplier for many years now, has been focusing its research on providing the best support to the athletes, in terms of technical clothing.

SLAM’s Research & Development department has worked tirelessly to find the best solutions possible for the clothes athletes wear during the regattas; thanks to its input of and close collaboration of with all of the Top teams which compete, wearing the SLAM label, in the seas the world over… from Europe to the USA, from Asia to Australia. SLAM’s team of expert testers participate in the most technically demanding and diverse sailing classes such as the Transpac 52, Melges 32 and Melges 24, International Etchells, IRC Class, not forgetting of course, the specific Olympic classes.

The R & D department worked particularly close with the Politecnico di Milano and Politecnico di Torino to conduct studies into new yarns, new fabrics, and new solutions which would respond best to both climatic conditions and to the biomechanics of the athlete aboard a sailboat.

A “Slam Top”, was designed for the Italian National Team and the world’s top sailing teams. In conjunction with the University of Milan, a detailed sailor’s “body map” was produced to enable in-depth studies to be made of the situations in which the athlete will find them.  This “body map” reflects the body’s critical points during sailing related tasks.

Scientific tests conducted by SLAM in order to experiment with and compare prototypes of these new products, SLAM staged a series of new tests at the LATT Laboratory in Biella, an organization which works in R & D for new materials and applications for the textile sector, and in close collaboration, with the Politecnico di Torino’s Department for Material Science and Chemical Engineering.

In short, true and proper scientific research to evaluate the performance of a SLAM Top (manufactured using technical fabrics) during sports activities, compared with another “control” garment of the same construction, but made entirely from cotton.

All the activity in order to provide athletes with the maximum technical benefits available from today’s fabric industry, and to contribute to improving their performance.

Court Affirms February 2010 for 33rd America’s Cup

May 14th, 2009

New York, NY, May 14, 2009 – Justice Shirley Werner Kornreich in the Supreme Court of the State of New York today upheld an earlier decision of the NY Court of Appeals to stage the America’s Cup in February 2010. “Today’s hearing should end any further delay to the 33rd America’s Cup and we can now look forward to some exciting racing in state-of-the-art boats early next year,” Tom Ehman, GGYC spokesman, said following the hearing.

On April 7, 2009, the New York State Court of Appeals unanimously ruled that GGYC is the rightful Challenger of Record and that the next match would be in ten months – early February 2010.

However, in an April 23 letter to GGYC, Société Nautique de Genève (SNG) sought to unilaterally dictate that the match date be delayed to May 2010 in defiance of the Court, which triggered a motion to hold SNG in contempt of court.
